Create an account

When you need an account, how to sign up and sign in, and what an account gives you.

Updated 2 September 2026

Do I even need one?

Not always. Watching public and unlisted events — and any ride someone shares with you by link — works with no account at all.

You need an account when you want to do something that's tied to you:

  • Register for an event and be tracked as an athlete.
  • Record your own Just Rides.
  • Follow athletes, teams or events and get notifications.
  • Post updates, comment, or react.
  • Join a team or club.
  • Create or manage an event as an organiser.

The first time you open Aster, a quick "What brings you here?" prompt lets you jump straight to finding a race to ride, watching someone, or organising — you can skip it, and it doesn't need an account.

You can sign up in the app or on the website — it's the same account either way.

  1. Choose Sign Up.
  2. Enter your display name (the name shown on results and your profile), your email, and a password of at least 8 characters.
  3. Enter your date of birth. You must be 16 or older to create an Aster account. There's no parent or guardian sign-up path for younger riders.
  4. Optionally pick your gender. This is used to group athletes in results and can be left blank. Your age category for results is worked out from your date of birth — you don't enter it separately.
  5. Accept the privacy policy (required) — the marketing tick-box is optional.
  6. Confirm — your account is created and you're signed in.

You'll receive a short series of welcome emails over your first week introducing the main things you can do.

Aster signs you in with your email and password only — there is no sign-in-with-Google/Apple and no email-link sign-in.

Enter your email and password. Once you're signed in, you stay signed in — the app does not log you out automatically, even if the network drops or an error occurs mid-ride. This is deliberate: being logged out in the middle of nowhere would be a real problem. See What happens when I lose signal?

The only times your session ends are when you tap Sign Out, or if the app detects its saved login is corrupted on your device. If your sign-in ever needs refreshing, a banner appears and tries a quick, silent refresh first — you're only sent to sign in by hand if that fails — and your ride keeps recording and nothing on your device is lost in the meantime.

Forgotten password

On the sign-in screen choose Forgot password?, enter your email, and we'll send a reset link. Open it and choose a new password (at least 8 characters). For security we always say the same thing whether or not the address is registered — so you won't be told whether an email exists in the system.

For changing your password or email while signed in, see Account and signing in.

Good to know

  • One account, all roles. The same account works as an athlete, a spectator, an organiser and a team member. You don't need separate logins.
  • The app keeps your data on your device. Your login and any ride in progress are stored on the phone so the app works offline. They stay there until you explicitly sign out.
  • You can delete your account and export your data at any time from Settings → Account. See Export or delete your data.
