On Aster, your safety net is the people watching your ride. There is no separate emergency-contacts list. If you raise an Alert, or crash detection raises one for you, it goes to:
- the event organisers, if you're in an event: it lands on their race-day dashboard with your location, and
- your watchers, if you're on a Just Ride: everyone following your watch link.
That's the honest deal: an Alert is a notification to real people who care about your ride, not a call to the emergency services. If nobody is watching a Just Ride, the app tells you an alert would reach nobody, and points you at your local emergency number instead.
Make sure someone is actually watching
A safety contact only works if they exist, so before a big or remote ride or run:
- On a Just Ride: before you start, choose Followers & club (so the people who follow you can watch, no link needed) or Anyone with link and send it to someone, a partner, a club mate, whoever would notice if you stopped moving. Just me means nobody's watching, so nobody's there to notice. See Just Ride and Who can see your location?.
- In an event: the organisers are your safety contact by default. Share the event page with your people too, so they can follow your live position.
- Tell them what the link is for: they'll see your live position, and a red banner with your last-known location if you raise an Alert.
Let responders ring you
Optionally, you can give the people handling your Alert a way to call you: in your profile editor, fill in Emergency phone and tick Show my phone number to safety-alert recipients. The number is only revealed with an Alert, never on your public profile.
What about event registration forms?
Aster no longer asks for an emergency contact when you register for an event. Organisers may still collect information they need through their own registration questions, see Registration and categories.
Important
- Aster's Alert is an in-app alert and location share. It does not contact the emergency services. Always carry a way to call for real help, and make sure someone knows your plans for remote rides.
