Curious what live tracking looks like before there's a real event to watch? Aster runs a permanent, always-on live demo you can open any time — no account, no app, no payment. It's the quickest way to see how the map, trails and leaderboard behave while a race is on.
What it is
The demo is a real event on Aster, "Aster Live Demo · Yorkshire Gravel," set up as a mass-start race, and it behaves just like a normal event page: a live map with rider markers and trails, a route, a Riders/leaderboard tab, and the Catch up playback controls. It runs a continuous cycle of a simulated race, so there's always something moving whenever you open it.
It's simulated — not real riders
The one thing to know: the riders in the demo aren't real people. It's a simulation, and the app makes that clear — it's badged "Live demo · Simulated riders" wherever it appears: the event listing, the event page header, and inside Catch up. Everything moves and updates like a live event, but nobody is actually out on a bike. It's there to show you how Aster works, not to track a real race.
How to open it
If you're signed in, look for the "Live demo" card near the top of the Home feed — it's labelled "Yorkshire Gravel" with the line "Simulated race, running now — no signup," and the whole card is one tap into the event. You can dismiss it, and it stays dismissed on that device.
Signed out, or don't see the card? Browse Events instead: the demo is the one simulated event kept in the public listing, clearly labelled so it's never mistaken for a real one.
What you can try on it
Because it behaves like a real event, it's a good place to get your bearings:
- The live map — watch the rider markers move along the route in near real time. See Reading the live map and trails.
- Trails — the line each rider leaves behind as they go.
- The leaderboard — live standings and progress on the Riders tab. See Reading the leaderboard.
- Catch up — rewind and replay the race from earlier with the playback controls (play/pause, scrub, speed), then jump back to now.
