New to being tracked? Here's the whole journey in order. Each step links to more detail if you want it.
Before the day
- Install the app (iOS or Android). You need the app to be tracked — the website is for watching.
- Create an account and sign in.
- Register for the event — open its page, tap Join, fill in the form (display name, bib, category).
- Open the event once while you have signal. This downloads the route and caches your registration so you can start later even with no signal.
- Allow location and notifications when the app asks, so tracking and alerts work.
- (Optional) Send your live watch link to friends and family who want to follow you.
At the start line
- Open the app; your event shows a countdown as the start approaches.
- When the start window opens, tap Start [event name]. Events start on the Standard battery mode with automatic fall-back on — there's no battery-mode question, and you can change it mid-ride.
- Let the GPS warm up (about 15 seconds) for an accurate first position; you're away once the fix looks good.
- What happens next depends on the format:
- Mass-start race — you'll see Tracking Armed until the gun, a beeping five-second countdown, then GO!
- Time trial or sportive — set off when you're ready; your official time starts when you cross the start line, and the app confirms "Start line crossed — clock is running!"
- Meet-up or point-to-point — you're rolling from the moment you start.
You can do all of this with no phone signal — the app uses your saved copy of the event.
While you're out
- Watch your live distance, speed and time on the tracking screen.
- Pause for a café or mechanical so it doesn't count against your moving time; Resume to carry on.
- Tap I'm OK to reassure watchers, or Alert in an emergency — an Alert doesn't end your ride.
- Lost signal? Keep going. Your live location holds for watchers and catches up when you reconnect. More on offline behaviour
Finishing
- In a race, time trial or sportive, cross the finish line and the app finishes you automatically — no tap needed. In a point-to-point, reaching your final checkpoint does the same. In a race or time trial, pulling out instead with Abandon records a DNF. A sportive or point-to-point is unranked, but stopping early there is still a DNF — use slide to end instead of waiting on the app to catch your crossing. In a meet-up, there's no finish line and no DNF at all — you always end it yourself with slide-to-end, whenever you're done, and it's recorded as Finished.
- You'll see your summary — time, distance, average speed, and lap splits if it was a multi-lap event. More on finishing
Afterwards
- Find your result on the leaderboard and the event's results page.
- Your completed events and rides show on your profile.
Quick reminders
- The app won't stop your ride or log you out on its own — you're in control.
- Your numbers are measured strictly between your start and finish, so they're consistent everywhere. Why your numbers are accurate
