Register for an event

How to find and join an event, what gets downloaded for offline use, and what to do before the start.

Updated 2 September 2026

Registering links you to an event as a participant, so you can be tracked on the day and appear in the live athlete list and results.

Find and join

  1. Open Discover (or follow a link to the event) to open its page. You can view any public or unlisted event page without signing in.
  2. Tap Join. If the event is private, you'll be asked for the Event Code the organiser gave you. Members-only club events can only be joined by members of that club — see clubs.
  3. Fill in the short form. Depending on the event this may include your Display Name (how you appear to spectators and in results), a Bib Number (only if the organiser lets athletes pick their own), a Category, and a team (chosen from teams you belong to).
  4. Tap to confirm. You're now registered.

Places can be limited — the app will tell you if the event, or your chosen category, is full.

Ballot events

Some big events allocate places by ballot. Instead of joining directly, you enter the ballot; if you're drawn you'll get an offer to accept or decline in My registrations. Until you accept an offer, your place isn't guaranteed.

What gets downloaded

When you register, the app downloads what it needs so you can start even with no signal later:

  • The route and map data.
  • The event's start details and your participant details (name, bib, category).

Your registration is also saved on your phone. That means once you've joined once with signal, you can later open the app at a signal-less start line and still start. See What happens when I lose signal?

Before the start

  • The event appears on your tracking screen, showing when its start window opens. In a mass-start race, once you're within the final hour you'll also see a live "starts in M:SS" countdown to the gun.
  • The Start button unlocks within the start window: about 1 hour before the scheduled start for mass-start races, 15 minutes for time trials and sportives, and 2 hours for point-to-point events. Until then it shows when it opens.
  • Meet-ups open a full 24 hours early. Riding or running to the meet point is part of the activity, so you can go live up to a day before the scheduled start — that's a real, recorded start, not a warm-up. On a club-hosted meet-up, going early makes you visible to your club mates only — nobody sees you on the public meet-up page until the scheduled start time passes.
  • Want friends to follow you? Tap Share a link to watch you live to send them the event's live page — they can watch you with no account.
  • If the organiser has enabled rider privacy for the event, you'll also see a Hide my location toggle — see Who can see your location.

Good to know

  • The organiser is the source of truth. If the organiser changes the start time, cancels, or the event has finished, the app will tell you when you try to start — even if your saved copy was slightly out of date.
  • Statuses you might see: Registered (joined, not started), Started (tracking live), Paused, Finished, DNF (did not finish), DNS (did not start).
