Watching

An athlete's live marker isn't moving. They're almost certainly in an area with no phone signal. Their points are being saved on their phone and will upload — and the marker, trail and distance will catch up — when they get signal back. Nothing is lost. (If they've finished, their marker freezes at the line, then fades and clears from the live map after a few seconds. Their result stays on the leaderboard and in the results.) See Reading the live map and trails.

I'm asked to sign in to watch a public event. You shouldn't be — public and unlisted events, and shared rides, are open with no account. Try the link again in a fresh browser tab; if it persists, please report it. (Private and members-only events do require signing in.)

A shared link doesn't work. The ride may have ended, the athlete may have revoked the link, or the event may have been switched to private. Ask whoever shared it for an up-to-date link. See Share links.

Mid-ride problems

Important: never sign out or reinstall the app to fix a mid-ride problem. Your ride data is safe on the phone, and the app recovers by itself.

"Sign-in needs refreshing" / a banner appears mid-ride. Your ride keeps recording regardless — the app never signs you out over a network or server error. A banner sits at the top of the screen — "Your activity is saved — tap to refresh" if you have a ride not yet fully synced, or "Sign-in needs refreshing" otherwise — and either way it tries a quick, silent refresh first; you're only sent to the sign-in screen if that fails. Your ride and everything recorded stay on the device throughout. See Account and signing in.

My ride didn't upload. It will. Open the app somewhere with signal and it drains the queue automatically — rides survive app restarts and phone reboots, and late data fills the ride in up to the moment you stopped. Don't reinstall the app: the unsent data is stored on the device. See What happens when I lose signal?.

Android keeps killing the tracking in the background. Some Android brands (Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Huawei and others) aggressively shut down background apps to save battery. Aster expects this: it restarts its own tracking when you reopen the app, and no ride is ever ended because the phone interfered. To prevent the interruptions in the first place, exclude Aster from your phone's battery optimisation ("Unrestricted" battery use) and don't swipe the app away mid-ride. See Tips for a reliable track.

Starting and finishing

GPS is slow to lock at the start. Step into the open, away from buildings and tree cover, and give it a moment. If you need to get going, Start anyway appears once the wait has run — accuracy improves as you move.

A save failed when I finished. Your finish is already recorded — the app captured the moment you tapped, and a retry keeps that exact time. Tap retry once you have signal.

I crossed the line but it still shows me racing. Automatic finish is detected from your uploaded position, so it can't confirm while you're offline. Once you're back in signal your queued positions upload and the finish is confirmed at the moment you actually crossed. If it still doesn't settle, the organiser can finish you from their dashboard. See Finishing a ride.

Follows and clubs

Can I follow more people? Yes — following is free and unlimited, so follow as many athletes, teams and events as you like, and unfollow any time. Following never affects watching: a shared link or public event page works for anyone, with no account. See Following and your feed.

Our weekly club meet-up hasn't appeared. Upcoming recurring meet-ups are created from the club's template while the club has its full club features switched on (its members hold Aster Plus). If that lapses, new meet-ups stop being created, but nothing is deleted, and past ones stay readable. Once membership is back in place, the recurring meet-ups resume. See Teams and clubs.

Notifications

I'm not getting push notifications. Check your device's system notification settings for Aster, make sure the master push switch is on and the type isn't muted, and confirm you're not in your quiet-hours window. Reopening the app refreshes your device registration. See Push notifications and devices.

App updates

The app shows "Update available" or reloads itself. That's the app refreshing to the latest version after a release. Let it reload; if prompted, tap to load the latest version.
