You have three distinct ways to reach the people in your event, each suited to a different moment.
1. The event feed: announcements and updates
Post to the event feed for updates that show on the event page, where registered athletes and event followers see them: schedule notes, course changes, weather calls, post-event recaps. When you post as the organiser, your event's followers can be notified, so the feed is your "everyone should know this" channel that also lives on the page for anyone who arrives later.
Best for: pre-event information, day-of updates, post-event recaps.
2. Message riders: a direct push to everyone
Message riders sends a push notification (with a title and an optional link) straight to all participants in the event. It's the most direct way to get a short, important message in front of athletes fast. You send it from the event card on your dashboard.
Best for: time-sensitive alerts, such as "neutral start delayed 15 minutes" or "route diverted at checkpoint 3".
3. The alert thread: talking to one athlete in trouble
When an athlete raises an Alert, you can message them directly from the alert, and they can reply, giving you a two-way thread while you coordinate help. See Handling alerts.
Best for: a live safety situation with a specific athlete.
Which to use
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Share info on the event page (and notify your followers) | Event feed |
| Push a short, urgent message to all athletes now | Message riders |
| Talk to one athlete during an alert | The alert thread |
Good to know
- Athletes control their own notification preferences, so non-urgent messages may not push to everyone. The in-app feed and notification list still capture them.
- Keep the direct Message riders push for genuinely time-sensitive messages, so athletes keep paying attention to it.
- See the athlete's side in Notification types.
