Anyone can create a team on Aster, free. Joining works one of two ways, depending on how the club has set itself up: instantly, or by application.
Create a club
- In the app, tap Create and choose Club (the same picker also starts a ride or a run), or open Groups and choose Create a team.
- Give it a name and a description, and add a logo and banner if you have them.
- Choose how people join:
- Open — anyone can join instantly.
- Application — people apply to join and an admin approves them.
- Create it. You become the owner and first admin, and the club gets its own page you can share.
Creating a club is free, and it works fully from day one — members, meet-ups (one-off or weekly), the board and routes all work at no cost. The club never pays a subscription. A small club is free, up to three members; beyond that, members of an open club join with their own Aster Plus to join in full.
Join a club
- Open the club's page — from Groups, from search, or from a link someone sent you.
- Tap Join (open clubs — you're in straight away) or Request to join (application clubs).
- For application clubs, the club's owner and admins are notified of your request and approve or decline it. You'll get a notification either way.
Join by invite link
Clubs can also share a one-tap invite link — typically pinned in their WhatsApp group or texted round. Tap it and you land on a join page showing the club; tap Join (or Sign up & join if you're new — your place is held through sign-up, so you land straight in the club afterwards). The invite is the approval: there's no application to wait on, even for an application club. If the club still has room within the free tier, you're in immediately. If the club has already grown beyond the free tier, the invite starts your free Aster Plus demo automatically so you land in as a full member; if you've already used your demo, you join as a follower of the club and are prompted to take out Aster Plus to become a full member. Good to know: a small club is free, up to three members. Beyond that, members of an open club join with their own Aster Plus to join in full — with a free demo to try first. A club can hold up to 500 members; below that, nobody already in is ever removed.
Follow vs join
- Following a club means its updates appear in your feed — you don't have to be a member, and following is free and unlimited. Once a club has three members, anyone can still follow and watch it for free without taking out Aster Plus.
- Joining puts you on the roster. Members can see and RSVP to meet-ups, read and post on the club board, and use the route library. When you join, you automatically follow the club too.
Leave a club
You can leave a club at any time from its page. The one exception is the owner, who must first transfer ownership to another member — a club is never left without an owner. See Roles and managing members.
